Kenseth Armstead Biography

 

Kenseth Armstead is an artist.  He completed the BFA program at the Corcoran College of Art & Design (1986 - 1990.) While still an undergraduate, he participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (Summer 1989.) After graduation, Armstead moved to New York City to attend the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program (1990 - 1991.)  He holds an MS in Integrated Digital Media from Polytechnic University (2005.)

 

Armstead’s works have been exhibited at the Photographer’s Gallery in London, England; the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC, USA; the Berlin VideoFest, Germany; and the MIT List Visual Arts Center, Boston, USA.  His videos and sculptures are included in the collections of the Pompidou Center (France), African American Museum (USA), Cinemedia (Australia) and numerous other private collections. 

 

Among the list of the many grants won in support of Armstead’s work are the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, NYFA Video fellowship and the Camille Hanks Cosby Fellowship.

 

The New York Times, Art in America, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post are among the international journalistic resources to have examined the meaning of Armstead’s videos, sculptures and installations.

 

Armstead has co-authored multi-media installations collaboratively with the art-band, X-PRZ, which he co-founded in 1991 and was also the Managing Editor of Rhizome Internet 1996 (currently rhizome.org)

 

Armstead has lived and worked in New York City since 1990.
